Murrells Inlet offers many different housing and community options. From oceanfront homes to more planned residential golf course style communities. The great news is getting to the beach is extremely convenient and non-stressful from any Murrells Inlet location.
Murrells Inlet offers various beach access points and even from the furthest point inland, you are only about 6-7 miles from the beach.

- Huntington Beach State Park (Furthest point is about 7 miles away)
Murrells Inlet is known for its wonderful beach accesses. As opposed to other areas up and down the southern coast, Murrells has many beach options and traveling to the beach keeps the stress level down. It’s due to the way the area is situated to the coast.
Simply put... Murrells doesn’t have a one way in, one way out, type of structure.
There are various beach access locations and ways to get there. This keeps that less desirable bumper to bumper traffic to a minimum.
And boy oh boy, are you in for a real treat! Wait until you learn more about our unique asset we have here in Murrells Inlet. The Huntington Beach State Park. Miles of protected beaches with NO housing. And yes, open to the public!
- Garden City Beach Access (Many public beach accesses with free parking)
- Surfside Beach Access (Many public beach accesses with paid parking)
- Huntington Beach State Park (Over 2 miles of protected beaches with public parking, nature trails, events, sightseeing, inlets, wildlife, multiple restroom facilities, gift shop, and restaurant). *Residents can purchase a yearly pass for $99 per year.
Simply explained, Garden City Beach is an unincorporated area of Murrells Inlet. If you were to ask the post office or make an offer on a property in the area, Murrells Inlet will be used as the property address.

Garden City Beach is where our beaches are in Murrells Inlet. This is really the best way to explain it.
So if you are looking for an oceanfront property, a property within a walk or golf cart to the beach, or vacation beach rental, this is the location you will be searching. Garden City Beach offers some features hard to find, maybe non-existence in other areas of Murrells Inlet.

Thankfully, Murrells Inlet does offer easy access to an international airport. The even better news.... it's far enough away to not have to worry about air traffic noise you would experience being closer by. The airport is about 20 minutes from Murrells Inlet.

Murrells Inlet and the surrounding areas offers a plethora of medical resources. From urgent care and general medicine to many doctors in specialized medicine.
The Waccamaw Hospital is the closest hospital and located only about 15-20 minutes from the furthest location of Murrells Inlet. There are also 3 other hospitals fairly close by.
And more great news...... If you are looking for a specialist in just about anything, you can find one not that far away. Murrells is located only about 1 1/2 hours from Charleston, SC. Charleston is known for some of the most well recognized healthcare in the state. There is a medical college located in Charleston so they have the latest and greatest technology and services. Its' a very beautiful and easy trip down to Charleston from Murrells Inlet.
There are loads of things to do in Murrells Inlet! Hard to cover it all in a brief description. It's very likely Murrells Inlet has something to offer your individual interest or lifestyle. Murrells is charming and historic. Peaceful, yet loads of activities and events. Some of the best food, yet quite affordable. It's the perfect coastal beach town!

Murrells Inlet is known for an incredibly inexpensive lifestyle. The property taxes are cheap, the insurance and utilities are very affordable, and the housing prices may surprisingly be in line or less expensive than the homes in the area you are currently located in.
Murrells Inlet has definitely experienced storm activity and flooding over years.
But obviously, this is to be expected anywhere along the south eastern coast. There is no escaping the risk of hurricanes when living by the beach.
However, the historic data does support the idea of less activity and overall damage than many of the other areas up and down the coast line.
See Murrells Inlet is tucked away more so than other states. Historical data seems to support this analysis. Our geographic location is quite beneficial. Murrells doesn't push out into the ocean as much as some of the beaches of Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina.
The worst storms to date:
- Hurricane Hazel in 1970
- Hurricane Hugo in 1989
- Hurricane Matthew in 2016
We've really been fortunate compared to other beaches up and down the coastline.
Flooding is a concern in any coastal town and can often be misunderstood from folks who have never lived by the beach. It's easy to assume that all the flooding occurs from from storm surge along the beaches. This is actually a major misunderstanding.
Flooding actually takes place much further inland and some areas can be in a higher-risk flood prone area than by the beach. This means your mortgage company would require flood insurance if purchasing in those inland areas as well. This inland flooding occurs from heavy amounts of rain.
